Darkness Suite

These images were selected for Monsters and Dust from several of Chris Strong's recent portfolios. Strong's landscapes and portraits balance intricately detailed fields of darkness with sharp punctuations of starlight, sunlight, and fire. A diffused composition and well-crafted chiaroscuro effects envelop Strong's subjects in a stillness of atmosphere and affect, creating vignettes that seem almost dislocated from time.   —M&D
