It’s Good to Want Things

Meet me on your old roof at the start of summer with the second-cheapest bottle of white wine, and don’t worry about glasses. Take a car home from work since you had to stay late, but it’s June and the latest dusk there is. The day’s been too hot, but with the sun setting in Jersey by then the breeze will be the only thing worth noting. Straddle me so you can see the skyline but I can only see Queens through the muggy glow. I won’t even believe how pretty I think you are here sitting in my lap the night before your birthday. I’ll hold your skinny ankles and we’ll be honest like how we were before the winter ever happened. Until you do, I’ll grind my teeth to daggers and dust.
